RESPs are split into income paid as Education Assistance Payments (EAPs) and your original contributions, and the EAPs are the installments that the child can take after they enroll into a post-secondary program. EAPs are made up of the government grants and earnings.

Bright tip: EAPs should be withdrawn first, because if the government grant money isn’t used, the government will take it back.
