Top Questions About Grants

The Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG) is available to any beneficiary who is a Canadian resident who has an RESP. The government of Canada matches 20% of RESP contributions, up to $500 in a year, to a lifetime maximum of $7,200 per child. In other words, by investing around $2,500 a year for 15 years, you could qualify for $7,200 in government grants for your loved one.

The short answer: not much. CST Spark makes it super simple to apply for federal and provincial grants. Our mutual fund representatives will help you determine the right amount to contribute at the right times, so you can take full advantage of government grants.

The CESG grant typically goes into your RESP 4 to 6 weeks after you make your contribution. In other words, if you contribute $2,500 in a lump sum, you’ll see an additional $500 added to your RESP in a month or so. If you contribute $200 every month, you’ll get multiple grant payments of $40 throughout the year. You’ll love seeing the 20% matching grant when you sign into CST Spark’s secure website to review your plan. It’s another way the Canadian government supports you as you pave the way for your child’s future dreams to take shape.
