About Us

The belief that all Canadians deserve access to higher education sparked a movement.

The creators of education savings plans in Canada

The founders of CST believed that all Canadians should have the freedom of choice and that meant having access to education after high school. Their first step was to create an education savings plan to help families overcome the financial barriers to education. Fast forward over the 60 years, and CST brings you CST Spark.

Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation (CST) is established as a not for profit foundation and offers Canadians an education savings plan for university.

CST proposes a change to the Income Tax Act to tax education savings interest payments in the hands of students as they pay little or no taxes.

Canada introduces the RESP and implements CST's proposed changes to the Income Tax Act. A significant step forward in helping to make education financially accessible for all Canadians.

CST introduces our first of many Graduate awards. The $5,000 award is named after one of our founders, Peter Wright.

CST launches CST Consultants, our face-to-face distribution channel, to help more Canadians have access to CST RESPs.

CST works with the Canadian Government to help introduce the first education savings grant:  the Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG).

Throughout the 2000's, we lobby and advocate for more grants to support Canadian families.

The Canada Learning Bond (CLB) and Additional CESG grants are made available to low income families

Quebec Education Savings Incentive (QESI) launches. Families in Quebec can now access over 10,000 in grants

British Columbia Training and Education Savings Grant (BCTESG) is available

CST launches CST Spark, the online RESP solution making setting up your savings plan simple.

CST Spark launches CST Spark Education Portfolios to provide more transparency, greater flexibility, and ease for customers.
